INFARED/THERMAL IMAGING INSPECTIONS

Home inspections have been, traditionally, visual inspections. This has been taken to mean visual to the human eye and readily seen. The newest such tool is the Infrared thermal imaging camera (ITI).

Using thermal imaging in home inspections will:

  • Extend the inspector’s ability to inspect the house.
  • Help find conditions that would otherwise go unnoticed.
  • Serve as an additional method of verifying defects suspected or found by other means, thus better proving the existence of the defect.
  • Provide better understanding of other problems with the house, and their causes.

This is relatively new technology and when used by a certified thermographer can greatly reduce the home buyer’s risk of water infiltration which cannot be seen and detected in a typical home inspection.
